How it Started

A significant influence in my life and in the creation of Wooden Hearts Boutique is my beloved grandmother, Pauline. I fondly remember the countless days spent at her and my Papa's farmhouse in Henryetta, Oklahoma. One beautiful spring morning, I found myself sitting at their old yellow kitchen table, surrounded by the sounds of birds chirping and the vibrant colors of blooming flowers outside.

At no more than six or seven years old, I was immersed in one of those 'just add water' watercolor books, my imagination running wild as I painted. As I completed my last masterpiece, I held it up with pride, watching the excess water trickle down the page. In a burst of excitement, I hung each painting on the refrigerator, marking them for sale—nickels for the simpler ones and dimes for the 'good ones.'

Unable to contain my excitement, I rushed to find Grandma to show her my collection of artwork for sale. To my delight, she bought every single piece. I was overjoyed; I had SOLD my artwork! That moment filled me with a sense of accomplishment and joy that I still cherish today. I was on cloud nine, feeling like a true artist.

My grandmother's unwavering support and belief in my creativity had a profound impact on my life. She nurtured my artistic spirit and instilled in me the values of hard work and dedication. I would not be where I am today without her love and guidance. Her legacy continues to inspire me as I strive to create beautiful, personalized pieces that bring joy to others, just as she did for me.

A significant part of the story behind Wooden Hearts Boutique revolves around my grandparents and their enduring love. In 1940, my Papa carved a wooden heart, inscribing "I love you" on one side, and presented it to my Grandma before they were married. This simple yet meaningful gesture became a lasting symbol of their relationship.

The week before I met my husband, Kalen, my Grandma passed this cherished heart to me. It was a moment filled with anticipation, as I held onto the heart that represented my grandparents' love. Ten months later, Kalen recreated our first date, a night filled with nostalgia. As he looked into my eyes and told me he loved me for the first time, I held a newly carved wooden heart in my hand, continuing the family tradition.

Fast forward four years, and I found myself in the ultrasound room, eagerly awaiting the first glimpse of our baby. When our son appeared on the screen, Kalen slid another tiny wooden heart into my hand, a reminder of the love that has been passed down through generations. This heart symbolized not only our love but also the legacy of my Grandma, whose support and guidance shaped my life.

In her honor, I named my company Wooden Hearts Boutique, reflecting the love and craftsmanship that have guided me. I feel fortunate that my Grandma was able to meet our son, Konrad, and that she knew about Wooden Hearts Boutique. She appreciated the name and the story behind it.

My Grandma passed away on May 1st, 2017, at the age of 96. I miss her dearly; she was my best friend and a significant supporter in my life. Her legacy continues to inspire me as I create personalized pieces that celebrate love and connection.
