A True Love Story
My Papa carved a wooden heart with "I love you" on one side and gave it to my Grandma before they were married in 1940. The woman I admire most, my Grandma, gave it to me the week before I met my now husband, Kalen. Ten months later Kalen took me on a recreation of our first date where he told me he loved me for the first time as I held a newly carved wooden heart in my hand. Four years later we waited anxiously to see our baby for the first time in the ultrasound room. When our son first appeared on the screen Kalen slid another tiny wooden heart into my hand. As an ode to the memory of my Grandma, and her hard work, love, and legacy, I named by company Wooden Hearts Boutique. Luckily she was able to meet our sweet baby boy Konrad and knew all about Wooden Hearts Boutique, she was quite fond of the name. Grandma passed away May 1st, 2017 at 96 years old. I miss her dearly, she was my best friend and my biggest supporter.
How it started...
I was at my Grandma and Papa's farm house in Henryetta, Oklahoma sitting at their old yellow kitchen table. It was a beautiful spring morning with birds chirping and the flowers blooming. No older than 6 or 7, I was painting in one of those 'just add water' watercolor books. As I finished the last painting I was extremely proud and held it up as the excess water ran down the page. I then hung each picture on the refrigerator and marked them for either a nickel or the 'good ones' for a dime. Not being able to contain my excitement, I ran to get grandma to show her all my paintings for sale. You know what she did? She bought all of them. I was so excited I had SOLD my art work. I was on cloud nine.
She had such a huge impact on my life and I would not be where I am today without her love and guidance.
